Twelve 200-litre rubbish bags.
That’s 2,400 litres of smaller litter collected from islands in our archipelago this summer.
But that number doesn’t include everything that wouldn’t fit into a bag.
Fishing nets. Tyres and rims. Canisters. Tarpaulins. Plywood. Insulation wool. Large pieces of Styrofoam. Urethane foam. Plastic boxes. And even parts of a toilet.
And then there are the things we find again and again:
Plastic bottles. Food packaging. Cigarette butts. Snus pouches and containers. Trimmer line.
Some of it has drifted across the sea.
Some of it has clearly been left behind by people.
That’s the uncomfortable part.
We live in a time when we know what plastic does to nature. We know how to recycle. We know that cigarette butts don’t disappear. We know that fishing line and plastic can become deadly traps for wildlife.
We know better.
And still, this is what we find.
Thankfully, we’ve also seen the other side of humanity this summer: customers filling their hands, pockets and bags with rubbish that wasn’t theirs simply because leaving it behind wasn’t an option.
That’s the side we’d rather believe in.
If you can carry it to an island, you can carry it back.

18 geocachers took over the archipelago!

For two full days, our boats were filled with enthusiastic, positive and determined geocachers exploring caches across the archipelago.

But they did much more than search and log. Along the way, they collected litter and left the islands a little cleaner than they found them.

This is exactly the kind of responsibility that makes us incredibly proud. Experiences in nature become even more meaningful when we also take care of the places we visit.

Could we possibly be any prouder of our customers? We don’t think so.

A huge thank you to all 18 participants for two wonderful days, fantastic company and for helping us protect our beautiful archipelago!

Sometimes an excursion that started as geocaching or exploring the archipelago simply turned into a clean-up mission.
No complaints.
Instead: ”Let’s take it with us.”
That attitude makes us incredibly proud.

Because regenerative tourism isn’t something SeaSport can create on its own. It happens when the people who visit a place decide that being a guest also comes with responsibility.

LEAVE IT BETTER | 01 — WHAT IF TOURISM COULD GIVE SOMETHING BACK?

We often talk about sustainable tourism. About reducing our footprint, respecting nature and trying to do less harm.
But this summer, together with our guests, we’ve been thinking one step further:
What if visiting a place could actually leave something positive behind?

For us, regenerative tourism doesn’t have to mean grand projects or perfect solutions.
It can mean picking up someone else’s plastic bottle.
Choosing fish caught by a local fisherman.
Eating at a small local restaurant.
Learning why a fragile island needs to be approached differently.
Listening to the stories of the people who live here.
Or simply leaving an island a little better than you found it.
And this summer, our customers have done exactly that.

Over the coming posts, we want to share what we’ve accomplished together – because we’re incredibly proud of the people we’ve had on board.
They haven’t just come to see our archipelago.
They’ve helped take care of it.
And perhaps that’s where regenerative tourism really begins.

Sometimes it’s hard not to lose faith in humanity.

Today was supposed to be a day spent enjoying the beauty of our archipelago. Instead, it turned into a clean-up mission, collecting the rubbish that others had left behind.

Plastic bags. Cans. Glas bottles. Plastic bottles . Face masks.

We live in a time where everyone knows about recycling, waste sorting, and protecting nature. There is simply no excuse for leaving your rubbish behind. None.

The archipelago is not a landfill. It is a fragile environment, home to wildlife and a place that thousands of people come to experience and enjoy.

If you can carry it to an island, you can carry it back.

Today we left the island in better condition than we found it. We only wish that one day, clean-up trips like this won’t be necessary.

No two days are ever the same around here.

Today was all about laying and burying underground cables. @lindroosmatte took the controls of the Hyundai excavator with precision, while Johnny embraced the honourable role of “the shovel guy”—taking care of all the spots where machine power simply couldn’t replace good old-fashioned manual work. 😄

The best results come from teamwork, where everyone has a role to play.

Another memorable Klovharun visiting week has come to an end.

This week we’ve had the privilege of welcoming guests from near and far, sharing the unique story of Tove Jansson’s beloved summer island. The weather certainly kept us on our toes—from calm sunshine to breezy crossings—but every trip had its own charm, and every group left with memories to take home.

Tove Jansson spent nearly 30 summers on Klovharun together with her lifelong partner, graphic artist Tuulikki Pietilä. Their tiny cottage had no electricity or running water, and they chose to live in harmony with nature—something that inspired much of Tove’s writing, artwork, and philosophy of life.

It’s always an honour to help visitors experience this remarkable place and to play a small part in preserving its story for future generations.

Today’s geocaching adventure in the Pellinge Archipelago turned out to be one of those days that remind us why we love being out on the water.

The forecast promised everything from sunshine to clouds and even a chance of rain… but somehow we managed to sail between it all and enjoy fantastic weather throughout the trip. Safe to say we got lucky!

A full day of island hopping, hidden caches, great conversations and beautiful archipelago scenery made for another memorable adventure.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us today. We hope you all made it home safely, with plenty of new finds, great memories and maybe even a few sore legs after all that climbing over the islands.

🚤 On the “road” again! 😎

Not every day is about scenic cruises and island adventures. Today we’re towing a boat back to shore after it decided that moving under its own power was overrated.

The owner is hoping to have her back in shape before Midsummer next week, so it’s straight to the workshop from here. 🔧

Helping fellow boaters when things don’t go according to plan is all part of life on the water, and we’re happy to lend a hand when needed.

After all, it seems even boats want a little maintenance and attention before the biggest boating weekend of the summer. 😄

🌿🚤 Combining pleasure with purpose! 🚤🌿

Today, we headed out to one of the islands in the archipelago for a different kind of adventure. The goal was simple: enjoy nature, spend time together, grill some burgers, and make a positive impact on the environment at the same time.

By the end of the day, we had collected and removed a full 75-liter bag of litter from the shoreline.

Among the strangest finds were a fluorescent light tube and a roadside snow marker pole—the kind used along roads during winter to show where the road ends and the ditch begins. How they ended up on a remote island is anyone’s guess!

It was a wonderful day filled with good company, great conversations, beautiful scenery, and a meaningful effort to help keep our archipelago clean.

Today’s geocaching adventure took us to Onas, where the legendary Onas Trail was waiting for us 🌊

A group of 19 positive and energetic geocachers spent the day exploring the island, finding caches and enjoying the archipelago together. But the day became about more than just geocaching ♻️

While moving along the trails, the group also collected trash that had ended up in nature — and the result speaks for itself in the video.

Today’s geocaching adventure took us all the way to Espoo.

We spent the whole day geocaching in sunny — but at times very windy — weather. A proper archipelago day out on the water.

Lots of caches, beautiful island stops, laughter and adventures throughout the day!

And the biggest news of the day:Ship dog Miuu had her very first internship day onboard 🐾

After carefully supervising the crew, inspecting the boats and charming all participants, the final result was clear:

This adventure took us all the way to Glosholm — a remote little island where history, sea and imagination meet in a truly special way.

We explored the old lighthouse ruins, listened to the waves crashing against the cliffs and let our thoughts drift into the world of stories and fantasy. Did you know that Glosholm lighthouse is said to have inspired Tove Jansson when creating the Moominhouse?

Today’s geocaching trip turned into something much bigger than just caches and boat rides 🌊

Between the loggings, rocky shores and small islands, something beautiful happened naturally. Our participants started spontaneously collecting trash that had drifted onto the beaches of the islands and skerries we visited. Small actions on their own — but together, an effort that truly makes a difference for the archipelago.

These are exactly the kinds of days that remind us why we love being out at sea. Not only to experience nature, but also to care for it.
